Antique American Robert Mitchell Carved Chinoiserie Savonarola Dragon Chair Circa 1900 Sculpture The base having two drawersSOLD A very rare antique American carved Savanarola dragon chair, by Robert Mitchell, circa 1900. This most unusual chair by Robert Mitchell (formerly Mitchell and Rammelsberg) follows a Savanarola form of the 15th Century chairs of the Italian Renaissance and has it roots from the chairs of ancient Rome. Mitchell had created a range of ornately carved chairs in the late 19th and very early 20th century, they were generally known as "Roman chairs".
