This fabulous thing is a carved wood whistle in the shape of a bird

and composition as a whole

I love the triangle formed by the three figures coming together--the outstretched arms of the little girl on one side

Still very usable and nice hung on the wall

I Austen Company, Chicago, which made some good ones! C. 1910 or so I believe. Hard to beat that green box with red liner and perfectly lined up safety pins and pretty clever too. 3 1 2" x 5 1 2" and in very good, unused condition. A bit of foxing staining visible on the background, pretty minor.
